Footage of the most recent theft on Sunday shows at least three men involved in that raid. One drives an excavator (stolen from a nearby construction site) toward an ATM built into the exterior wall of a shop outside of Dungiven. Over and over again he tears at the wall until most of that part of the building is destroyed. He then scoops up the ATM, swivels the arm over to a nearby van that just happens to have a hole cut out of its roof, and with the help of his two accomplices, sporting balaclavas, dumps the booty inside.
The Kubota ran tip-top for three months when a short blew the ignition switch. Horsing around with it I blew the starter. That was an easy fix, but another $250 in the hole. When the backhoe came off, I needed to buy 3-point arms, another $250. A year later, with all the other miscellaneous purchases, most not really needed, I probably have about $11,500 in the Kubota, which for a 45-horse with backhoe, really isn’t bad at all. If I ever need to sell it, I wouldn’t take much less than $15,000. Not that that’s going to happen anytime soon. I haven’t found much on our small property the tractor won’t do: snow removal, firewood, food plots, our big garden, cutting trails in the woods, dragging logs to be milled into lumber.

Who likes dropping or spilling materials? No one. That’s why CASE’s innovative Ride Control™ feature is such a benefit. Just push a button to automatically steady the loader arm when traveling at elevated speeds and the machine automatically compensates with greater shock absorption and reduced loader arm bounce, so you can work faster than ever without spilling your load.
Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.

A tractor is a large, heavy duty vehicle with a petrol or diesel motor delivering high torque at a low speed. Tractors are especially indispensable in the world of agriculture, as they can tow implement or machine attachments used for ploughing, tilling, harrowing, planting and feeding, as well as spraying fertilizers and pesticides. Another popular attachment is the hey tedder that allows haymaking. Tractors also have the power to haul large items, and the heavy treads of their rear tyres allow plenty of traction on soft or uneven terrain. The more modern RC tractors can be controlled remotely and some are used to mow like a tractor mower.

A skid-steer loader can sometimes be used in place of a large excavator by digging a hole from the inside. The skid loader first digs a ramp leading to the edge of the desired excavation. It then uses the ramp to carry material out of the hole. The skid loader reshapes the ramp making it steeper and longer as the excavation deepens. This method is particularly useful for digging under a structure where overhead clearance does not allow for the boom of a large excavator, such as digging a basement under an existing house. Several companies make backhoe attachments for skid-steers. These are more effective for digging in a small area than the method above and can work in the same environments. Other applications may consist of transporting raw material around a job site, or assisting in the rough grading process.

A zero-turn lawn mower is a riding mower that has a zero-turn radius--meaning it spins as opposed to turning like a standard vehicle with front-wheel turning. Basically, these things can turn on a dime. Instead of a steering wheel, most models have levers to control speed to each drive wheel, using a hydraulic-based system. They are considered faster and more efficient than standard riding lawn mowers. Because of this unique feature, they can be more expensive.
Knowing how much tractor you need is a separate problem all together. The answer depends on the work you intend to do. What implements will it pull? Is the main job brush hogging an established pasture or finish-cutting a lawn? Do you need tires that won’t trash the yard or more aggressive treads and 4-wheel drive so it won’t get bogged down in the woods? I was after a 30-to 50-horse machine with 4-wheel drive, and a frontend loader. Because much of my land is forest that I’m clearing for food plots and pasture, I wanted something heavy enough to take a beating and pull an 8-foot tiller or brush hog.
