I was happy with my $9,000 purchase price, if not a little stunned. Except for our house, which was only possible thanks to a big mortgage, this was the largest single purchase I’d ever made. More than my truck. More than my wife’s car. But auction houses charge additional fees that you need to be mindful of. At the auction I attended, the buyer’s fee was 10 percent for total sales under $1,000 and 1 percent for sales above $1,000. Credit card payments were an additional 2 percent, which I was OK with because I got the equivalent of 3 percent cash back in points and had the dinero to pay it right off – thanks to months of tight living.
A zero-turn lawn mower is a riding mower that has a zero-turn radius--meaning it spins as opposed to turning like a standard vehicle with front-wheel turning. Basically, these things can turn on a dime. Instead of a steering wheel, most models have levers to control speed to each drive wheel, using a hydraulic-based system. They are considered faster and more efficient than standard riding lawn mowers. Because of this unique feature, they can be more expensive.
For a standard household lawn mower under normal conditions, it is recommended to sharpen the blades twice a mowing season. It’s important to keep the blades sharp as they cut grass faster and cleaner, and this cleaner cut promotes faster lawn regrowth. If you notice decreased performance, uneven cutting patterns, or it is taking longer to mow your lawn, it might be time to check the blade. Take the mower to a certified blade sharpener.
