Unlike in a conventional front loader, the lift arms in these machines are alongside the driver with the pivot points behind the driver's shoulders. Because of the operator's proximity to moving booms, early skid loaders were not as safe as conventional front loaders, particularly during entry and exit of the operator. Modern skid loaders have fully enclosed cabs and other features to protect the operator. Like other front loaders, it can push material from one location to another, carry material in its bucket or load material into a truck or trailer.
I bought my Kubota L3750 in August 2016, at Empire Farm Days. It’s the largest agricultural trade show in the Northeast. This happens to be an hour or so from our new homestead and start-up chicken farm in upstate New York. We had owned our property almost a year, and soon as we moved in I starting thinking about tractors. My aim was something big enough to manage food plots, handle firewood, and clear brush. In the L3750 I have that, and I hope what I learned along the way can help other greenhorn farmers and homesteaders make that first tractor purchase.

For more than six decades, TYM has been entrenched in the global agricultural marketplace. Our experience has honed our expertise, enabling us to build tractors at the utmost level of quality. In 2004, we introduced the first line of compact tractors into the western region of the U.S. Customers quickly recognized the quality and value of our machines. This success prompted us to expand distribution into the eastern U.S., as well as Canada.
An excavator is designed to do one thing well - to dig out trenches, footings, and foundations with ease. Excavators are available in a variety of sizes, from the micro-excavator units that are adept at navigating tight urban or residential areas, to the massive earth-moving units that can scoop thousands of pounds of material in one pass. With the popularity of excavators at an all time high, it pays to understand the differences between competing models. Then, you can make an educated choice on a model that will serve your crew the best.

The main types of lawnmowers are the walk-behind mowers (push reel, gas or electric); riding (the fun one), hover mowers, which are push mowers that use an impeller system to push air down, allowing it to hover over the grass; and the robotic mower, which is an autonomous, self-guided unit that is as efficient at cutting the grass as it is at impressing (or frightening) the neighbors.
The Melroe brothers, of Melroe Manufacturing Company in Gwinner, North Dakota, purchased the rights to the Keller loader in 1958 and hired the Kellers to continue refining their invention. As a result of this partnership, the M-200 Melroe self-propelled loader was introduced at the end of 1958. It featured two independent front-drive wheels and a rear caster wheel, a 12.9 hp (9.6 kW) engine and a 750-pound (340 kg) lift capacity. Two years later they replaced the caster wheel with a rear axle and introduced the M-400, the first four-wheel, true skid-steer loader.[2] The M-440 was powered by a 15.5 hp (11.6 kW) engine and had an 1,100-pound (500 kg) rated operating capacity. Skid-steer development continued into the mid-1960s with the M600 loader.

Before the 1990s, all excavators had a long or conventional counterweight that hung off the rear of the machine to provide more digging force and lifting capacity. This became a nuisance when working in confined areas. In 1993 Yanmar launched the world's first Zero Tail Swing excavator,[9] which allows the counterweight to stay inside the width of the tracks as it slews, thus being safer and more user friendly when used in a confined space. This type of machine is now widely used throughout the world.

A skid-steer loader can sometimes be used in place of a large excavator by digging a hole from the inside. The skid loader first digs a ramp leading to the edge of the desired excavation. It then uses the ramp to carry material out of the hole. The skid loader reshapes the ramp making it steeper and longer as the excavation deepens. This method is particularly useful for digging under a structure where overhead clearance does not allow for the boom of a large excavator, such as digging a basement under an existing house. Several companies make backhoe attachments for skid-steers. These are more effective for digging in a small area than the method above and can work in the same environments. Other applications may consist of transporting raw material around a job site, or assisting in the rough grading process.
The wheels on a skid steer typically have no steering mechanism, they are in a fixed, straight line relative to the body of the machine.  By turning the left and right wheel pairs at different speeds, the machine turns by skidding, or dragging its wheels across the ground.  The rigid frame and strong wheel bearings prevent the torsional forces caused by this dragging motion from damaging the machine.  This skidding motion tears up the ground on which the machine operates.
Excavators (hydraulic) are heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom, dipper (or stick), bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the "house".[1] The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. They are a natural progression from the steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors.[2] Due to the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is fundamentally different from cable-operated excavators which use winches and steel ropes to accomplish the movements.[3]

I was happy with my $9,000 purchase price, if not a little stunned. Except for our house, which was only possible thanks to a big mortgage, this was the largest single purchase I’d ever made. More than my truck. More than my wife’s car. But auction houses charge additional fees that you need to be mindful of. At the auction I attended, the buyer’s fee was 10 percent for total sales under $1,000 and 1 percent for sales above $1,000. Credit card payments were an additional 2 percent, which I was OK with because I got the equivalent of 3 percent cash back in points and had the dinero to pay it right off – thanks to months of tight living.
