Skid Steer loaders offer great versatility. Due to their compact size and zero-radius turning circle, it is possible to use them in confined spaces where many other types of heavy machinery cannot reach. They are ideal for landscaping in parks and yards, or moving earth around a construction site; and in some cases it is possible to use them in place of a full-scale excavator to dig holes. Sellers on eBay also offer specialized buckets and attachments for clearing snow, grinding tree stumps, mowing grass, or digging trenches. With so many practical applications, skid steer loaders represent an excellent investment for small businesses looking to streamline some of their methods and improve overall workforce efficiency, and they are also useful for homeowners or farmers with a lot of land to maintain.
Bobcat Company invented the world’s first skid-steer loader. Bobcat has celebrated a 50-year history of quality, performance and reliability. It’s no wonder they’re the world’s best selling skid-steer loader. When paired with a genuine Bobcat® attachment, each skid-steer model is a force to be reckoned with on your jobsite. And with more than a dozen models to choose from, you’ll find the right machine for any size job.
"Interior demolition is a good example where these machines excel, as the machine is small enough to access the inside of a building, yet powerful enough to use a hydraulic breaker attachment to demolish concrete and then switch to a grapple to remove the debris," says Rostberg. "Accessing in-between houses built closely together or through backyard gates and fences is another prime example of the usefulness of this size machine."

Jobsite dimensions are one of the greatest factors to know to fit the skid steer to the job. "Understanding physical limitations of the work area often dictates the class that may be used in the application," says Dennis Turney, Hyundai Construction Equipment. "The next consideration would be the lifting height or dumping height requirement, along with the capacity of the job. Finally, hydraulic capacity needs to known in order to operate any hydraulic attachments.

United Rentals offers you the world’s largest fleet of dependable skid-steer loaders. From the farm to the construction site to the industrial plant, these compact and maneuverable machines are ready to tackle your jobs fast and cost-effectively. Skid-steers are excellent for digging, grading and leveling. The larger machines are suited for the toughest applications and for use with special high-performance high-flow hydraulic attachments. A wide variety of attachments allow each of these machines to do more than just load materials. Quick-change attachment systems give you the ability to quickly and easily connect attachments.
Applications that require the extra horsepower, such as dozing work, are also a good fit for large skid-steer loaders. "Basically, the large-frame skid steers are going to do the heavy lifting for a contractor," says Zupancic. "When they need a big machine to do the hard work on a big site, but they still need maximum manueverablity and versatility, they'll turn to a large skid steer."

"Knowing the specific applications the customer would like to perform will help a rental business determine the size and power of machine needed to most efficiently complete the tasks," says Rostberg. "Asking questions and getting to the core of the customer's work will help determine this. Also, while inquiring about the customer's needs, a rental business might discover opportunities to rent attachments that will help the customer more quickly and efficiently complete their job."
Skid steer loaders, the "Swiss Army Knives" of machines, use a wide range of mechanical and hydraulically powered attachments to accomplish varied tasks. Skid loaders, having sophisticated auxiliary hydraulic systems, are compact, highly maneuverable, and range in rated operating capacity (the weight that can be safely lifted and transported) from 500 to more than 4,000 pounds.
SSL (skid steer loader) refers to the standard wheeled machine.  CTL (compact track loader) and MTL (multi-terrain loader) refer to different undercarriage designs.  CTLs feature a steel embedded track and steel undercarriage components for maximum life in many applications.  MTLs have a rubber track undercarriage that delivers lower ground pressure compared to an SSL and CTL so they don’t tear up the ground as badly.
