A robotic mower is an autonomous mower that operates within a defined set of boundaries to mow a yard. Wire boundaries frame the desired mow area (the yard) and the robotic mower operates continuously within that area, mowing the lawn until you turn it off. They are generally designed for smaller areas, but some newer models are showing increased mow area capabilities. They are awesome if you don’t have the time (or desire) to do it yourself.
Knowing how much tractor you need is a separate problem all together. The answer depends on the work you intend to do. What implements will it pull? Is the main job brush hogging an established pasture or finish-cutting a lawn? Do you need tires that won’t trash the yard or more aggressive treads and 4-wheel drive so it won’t get bogged down in the woods? I was after a 30-to 50-horse machine with 4-wheel drive, and a frontend loader. Because much of my land is forest that I’m clearing for food plots and pasture, I wanted something heavy enough to take a beating and pull an 8-foot tiller or brush hog.

A zero-turn lawn mower is a riding mower that has a zero-turn radius--meaning it spins as opposed to turning like a standard vehicle with front-wheel turning. Basically, these things can turn on a dime. Instead of a steering wheel, most models have levers to control speed to each drive wheel, using a hydraulic-based system.
